ANDREW DAVIES

Baritone Andrew Davies read music at Cambridge University, where he was a choral scholar at Clare College and St John’s College, and continued his training with postgraduate studies at the Royal Academy of Music.

In opera, Andrew has worked as a principal artist throughout the UK and across the world with conductors including René Jacobs, William Christie, Laurence Cummings, Robin Ticciati and Vladimir Jurowski. Highlights include Glyndebourne, Berlin Staatsoper, Aix-en-Provence Festival, Opéra Comique Paris and BAM New York. He toured Europe with the Freiburger Barockorchestra in a performance of Handel’s Giulio Cesare, and created the dual role of Lady MacDuff/Porter in the world premiere of Luke Styles's all-male Macbeth at Glyndebourne and the Royal Opera House. Andrew covered the title role in Monteverdi's L'Orfeo for Bayerische Staatsoper at the Munich Opera Festival.


An experienced concert artist, is in demand as a singer in recital and oratorio.  Andrew has worked extensively in London and across the UK; solo appearances have included Messiah with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, St Matthew Passion in St John’s, Smith Square, Faure Requiem at the Three Choirs Festival and Bach's Mass in B minor in Cardiff's St David's Hall. In Europe he has sung Handel at the Israeli Opera House, Innsbruck Festival, Salle Pleyel Paris and Madrid's Auditorio Nacional de Música. He appears regularly at St Martin in the Fields where in 2021 he gave the first performance of Stainer’s Crucifixion orchestrated by Iain Farrington for the London Mozart Players; other highlights include Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Haydn’s The Creation and Bach’s St John Passion with the Academy of St Martin in the Fields. Most recently he sang Bach’s Magnificat and Handel’s Dixit Dominus for the OAE in Cambridge.
